You can foster kittens, too!
I had cats growing up, but my mom did all the work. I didn't know much about them to be honest. I just cuddled with them when they let me. A few years ago, I wanted to adopt a cat, but my husband was resistant. He claimed that it was because of my cat allergies, but really, I think he thought he didn't like cats). We came to an agreement: we would try fostering to see how it worked out, and then adopt after that if things went well. Plus, if your allergies aren't too severe, you can expose yourself to cats enough to build up a tolerance to the allergens, so fostering would be a good way to test that theory.
I didn't know much before taking in my first foster, but I've learned along the way with every new kitten I raise. Whenever there are health issues, I ask a lot of questions to understand the symptoms so that I can catch it sooner next time. I'm curious, and I want to learn as much as I can to help save as many kitten lives as I can.
I'm not an expert, and I definitely don't have all the answers, but I put together a reference guide with some basic information that I've learned through fostering. You can download it below. The guide focuses on how to care for orphan kittens (bottle babies), but some parts are also applicable to kittens that have a mama. I think the guide can be a good place to start if you're new to fostering as well as a good reference guide if you need quick answers.
